Gorilla Bread

What is Gorilla Bread? Well, kind of like monkey bread only waaay better.  Think of a little monkey. Isn't he cute?  Not picture a gorilla and how much bigger he is than the little monkey.  That is how much better Gorilla Bread is.

When I saw Paula Deen make Gorilla Bread on TV  it looked sooo good. Then I looked it up in one of  her cook book and went nuts. I read the recipe to Kay and she told me to go to the store and get the ingredients. So, to the store I went.  While I was making it up a neighbor came by. She had some and left. Pretty soon other neighbors just happened by. Someone went to the store, again and that first morning I made four batches of Gorilla Bread.
By the way, if you don't have all of Paula Deen's cook books go to QVC or Foodnetwork.com and get them.  Don't worry about reading what's in each one. Just get them and start on page one of the first one you pick up.  They haven't given me permission to put a link to their site here so you have to do some work but it will be well worth it.

When I talked to Paula at the Fancy food show, in San Francisco, I told her I had her recipe in my web site. She said it was OK for me to have it here and then we talked about how good it is and how much she and her husband like it.

½ C (1 stick) butter
1 C packed light brown sugar
1 (8 oz.) package of cream cheese

½ C granulated sugar
3 t cinnamon
2 (12 oz.) cans of refrigerated (10 ea.) biscuits
1 ½ C coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
preheat oven to 350º      Spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

In a small saucepan, stirring well, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat. Set aside. Cut the cream cheese into 20 equal cubes. Set aside.   Mix the white sugar and cinnamon together and also set aside.

Now we’re ready to get going!

Sprinkle ½ C of the walnuts around the bottom of the bundt pan.

Press out a biscuit with your fingers so it's kind of flat and sprinkle with about ½ t of cinnamon sugar.  Now place a little cube of cream cheese in the middle and wrap the biscuit around the it, making sure to seal the dough well. Roll the round ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place in the bundt pan on top of the walnuts.

When the first 10 are in the pan, sprinkle with some cinnamon/sugar and pour half the brown sugar/butter mixture over them. Top the first layer with another ½ C of nuts and prepare the second layer like the first.

Cover the second layer of biscuits with the remaining cinnamon/sugar then the brown sugar/butter and top with the remaining nuts.

Bake for about 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Place a plate on top of the pan and invert. The Gorilla Bread should drop right down onto the plate.

I’d saythis would serve 4 to 5. Maybe 6. No, more like 4. Heck, I’d eat the whole thing in one sitting.
